Diving on the wreck site

The wreck of the U-boat lies on a flat seabed at a depth of 68 metres. It rests on its starboard side and is broken near the conning tower – it is a result of a mine explosion. You can look inside hull by the place the wreck broke in half – in good visibility, you can see various valves and pipes. Both the bow and the stern are above the seabed. In the stern section, two large propellers and a double rudder are visible. Around the conning tower, there are many scattered parts of the U-boat and its equipment. A periscope towers the conning tower. The entire deck is still covered with planks.

Story

This U-boat (type VIIC) was undergoing trainings on Gdansk Bay, when suddenly it disappeared at night on 16.03.1945 with all crew. Only after the war was over, its fate has been connected with operations of a soviet minelayer submarine L-21. It was re-discovered in 2001 by Maritime Office in Gdynia. Hydrographic research conducted in the following years showed that it's a wreck of a U-boat, most probably type VIIC, broken in half at the conning tower. It was named OP Przełamany (Broken Submarine). It took many years until finally, in 2013, it was identified by Baltictech divers in cooperation with Daniel Pastwa as U-367.
